Origin Story

An East Coaster by birth, Julia Mandeville’s life is now firmly grounded in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her work centers on blooming opportunities in the arts, creative expression, social entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and collective impact. Though the world can be unconscionably dark, Julia believes – has to believe, in order to exist – unwaveringly in the power and possibility of our shared light. She advocates for a reality in which everyone is actually and equivalently nourished, protected, and nurtured, with recognition that such equity is the foundational condition required to achieve justice. She imagines a future beautiful by virtue of our highest human capacities for grace, generosity, transcendence, citizenship, and community being realized.

After more than 15 years of local organizing and program building towards these aims, and following a period of intense change, reflection, and growth in her personal universe, Julia began Constellation Southwest as a public journal project. As an experimental exercise, she is challenging herself to openly contemplate, contend with, and explore the triumphs and traumas of experience… and the potentialities of hope, progress, and conscious evolution.
